Gardening in the Festive Season got under way at the Kenton & District u3a on Wednesday 29 November 2023 with a Bring Your Own Festive Picnic.

There was a wide choice of items, all brought along by the Gardening Group members, and the selection was entirely vegetarian and so acceptable to many palates. In addition to Asian and Western starters, there were quiches for the main courses, and there was a selection of desserts including an amazing blueberry frangipane tart. The picnic was finished off with a selection of chocolates and biscuits.

Throughout the picnic, there was a loud hubbub of discussion on gardening matters, including the significant level of late summer blight experienced on outdoor tomato plants this year, and what can be done to avoid a repeat next summer.

Suitably fortified, the members were able to face the cold outside if they chose to do some work on their own gardens!
