Our group of keen photographers met on Tuesday 02 April 2024 for another discussion session which covered the differences between photography as a hobby versus a useful activity, and whether the amateur photographer is more interested in the pictures or in the equipment used to make the pictures. Several award winning photographs were shown.
We had a discussion about the differences between smart phone cameras and traditional cameras, and there was a demonstration of a camera with a 1200mm telephoto lens, There were also two interesting Canon cameras for the group to examine in detail – a Canon Sureshot SX230 (with 12.1 megapixel sensor) and a Canon Epoca 135 (a film camera with a 35-135mm zoom lens). Both cameras contained interesting innovations that were explained in detail.
We then had a very topical discussion about the difference between improving a photograph and faking a photograph – there will be more on this topic at our next meeting on 07 May 2024 when there will be an emphasis on software for improving photographs and an introduction to simple video editing.
