What to do about Leaves on the Lawn

Our Gardening Group met on Wednesday 27 November 2024 for a meeting concentrating on the tasks that need to be done during November. There were Videos and Articles.

There was lots of advice on what to do with the leaves on the lawn. After a long discussion and a video we concluded that the leaves are home to many beneficial insects and some pests, and putting the leaves on the compost pile – complete with insects – is probably the best approach. Some members did appreciate using a lawn mower to collect and chop up the leaves ready for composting! There was lots of advice on what can be propagated now, and what should be dug up and divided too. There was advice on looking after your greenhouse, but many felt that insulating a greenhouse with bubble wrap is probably a step too far.

There was an interesting video that illustrated how winter colour can be achieved with evergreen shrubs and trees, but there was some scepticism about the benefits of using ivy as evergreen colour.

All we need now is some good weather so that we can get on with the tasks. Our next meeting is on 22 January 2025 at 2pm.
